Valentine's Day Poem by Jim Yerman

I write love poems about sunrises, sunsets…
about the clouds the moon and the sea…
because their beauty and their magnificence constantly inspire me.

I write love poems about the Earth…
her land, her mountains, her flowers and her trees…
because the beauty of these miracles of nature constantly inspire me.

I write love poems about the animals
who frequent the sky, the land and the sea…
because their beauty and diversity constantly inspire me.

But I think the best love poems I write
are saved for my friends and my family….
because the love we share constantly inspires me.

Which is why, when I sit down to write a love poem…
of the Earth, of her nature, her animals
or my friends and family…
I will usually choose the latter…
because when it comes to understanding love…
without the latter…
the former doesn't matter.
