The Oldest Scriptures -
The Vedas!
Pearls of wisdom,
Perpetuating the perennial truths.
Perpetuating the word of God!
Enigmatic knowledge,
Eternally existing,
Ever glowing, infinite!
Four Vedas that
Illuminate the mind with
Intriguing knowledge!
Rig Veda,
Yajur Veda,
Sama Veda,
Atharva Veda!
Each Veda has three main divisions:
The Samhitas, the Brahmanas, the Aranyakas!
To comprehend these texts, one must read between the lines!
Vedas are hymns to God
Prayers to the One and only Ultimate Reality,
Prayers to the elements of this Universe,
Prayers to the individual and the Universal Soul.
When I was young I was fascinated by the idea that old scriptures survived for centuries through the oral tradition - SHRUTHI - It was called in my mother tongue. My grandmother had a lot of these books - The Geeta, which she recited everyday, and the Upanishads that usually remained in my grandparents' study. I never really read much of it, but I always liked those books. Thanks for sharing Dr. Menon.
Dear Red Poet, I am really happy that you are reading the Series of Vedas in order, from the beginning. Thank you so much. Sruti and Smriti are our oldest source of Vedic Knowledge. Your grandmother was a wise lady. Even though you say you have not read much of it, your presence in a house surrounded by Bhagavad Geeta and Upanishads, must have had a silent influence on your spirit.
Human interaction is basically the same as it was in prehistory. At the least, all scripture can be enjoyed as literature and used as insight to the ethos from the time in which it was written.
Old scriptures have been assimilated by many religions. Creation stories, flood epics. It is interesting indeed to learn the minds of the ancients, throughout the globe, that have put their thoughts in text.
Thank you so much Kelly. It would be an interesting journey to explore the knowledge given in the Vedas.
Vedas are the oldest repository of spiritual knowledge in the world. The series is going to be full of information and knowledge about Vedic rituals and traditions. Thanks and wishing you all the best, Geeta ji.
Rajnish ji, thank you so much for your good wishes. Your goodwill and encouragement means a lot to me.
