Vedas 4 -Vedanta Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Vedas 4 -Vedanta

Rating: 5.0

For Indian Philosophers
As well as for the
Western philosophers,
The word ‘Vedanta' is
Treated with tremendous respect,
As it points and depicts to
The assimilation of the Vedas
In a nutshell.

When we dissect
The word Vedanta -
It is: Ved + Anta.
‘Ved' is the Vedic knowledge
While ‘Anta' is the end.
So, Vedanta means
The end of Vedas or
The conclusion of Vedas.

End or Conclusion
Does not merely
Signify
The last paragraph,
Sentence or word,
But means much, much more!
The last verses of the Vedas could
Run into pages of numerous verses.

Vedanta contains
Brilliant verses of
High potency,
High Wisdom,
The essential summary of the Vedic texts
True essence of the Vedas,
Mind boggling yet
Mind illuminating!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It was a few days before my father passed away on 22nd Feb 2001, that
on a significant day, while I sat on the hospital bed talking to him, where he was admitted for illness, that he uttered the word
‘philosophy'. My father wanted me to learn Philosophy.
Most part of my early life, I had spent dancing on various stages both in India and abroad. Now, time had come for philosophy. A few days after my father's demise, I took a firm decision to learn philosophy. It was as if my father's spirit was speaking and guiding me.
On a fine day in early June 2001, I walked into the Mumbai University campus in Santacruz. I joined the Philosophy Department for philosophical studies. Though I was 50 years old, I felt like a 15 year old, ready to learn an absolutely new subject.
So, my companionship with philosophy has been steady and strong for the last 17 years.

Your poem is beautiful. I am not the most well-read person and have very little idea about philosophy, but how true is the sentiment that some thoughts never end. Knowledge, whether in Vedas or in life, in endless; and each day I learn something new, like about Vedantas from this poem. Thanks for sharing the knowledge Dr Menon. Have a nice day: -)

Thank you dear Red Soul for reading the poems on Vedas, step by step. This is the best way to learn and imbibe. Even for me, it is re-learning and re-establishing the truth of Vedas.I am enjoying this deep philosophy. Thank you, again, for sharing this happiness with me. God bless you.

Excellent dissection of the word Vedanta! The last stanza is the epitome of this beautiful piece of work! Though I have not gone to school of Philosophy, I feel like a 15 year inquisitive boy (I am just fifty) going through this wonderful poem! (10)

Rajnish ji Namaskar! So good to see your beautiful comment in the morning. It is like the dawn pouring down its blessings. Thank you so much. Apart from the strict Vedic knowledge, i thought i should write my personal experiences as well as to how from being a dancer, i landed on to philosophy and later to poetry too. :)
