Summer. Pre-dawn dark.
Outside leaves shake, branch raps roof—
just me in big bed.

Glen, you have richly envisioned the heightened sensitivity of the senses that accompanies solitude. One reason that I love hiking for the opportunity of meditation. And a beautiful contrast of the almost amniotic quality of lying in bed in a bedroom in a house, while the outside forces probe your security. Bravo! :) S

once again, thank you, neal. on solitude, i just read yesterday this short poem by mary oliver which i'll copy below and i think you'll appreciate. i'm assuming she's thinking of the likes of tu fu and li po: The Old Poets of China Wherever I am, the world comes after me. It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it. Now I understand why the old poets of China went so far and high into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.

A Senryu, pregnant with meaning. When the leaves rustle - One can imagine plenty of things specially objects of nature! A branch raps the roof- Much more thinking needed here - more of curiosity and perhaps fear too. Just me in big bed- Certainly, denotes a lonely life! Beautifully done Glen!
