We use our champagne glasses
for our pop, our juice and milk.
We cover our dog's bedding
with ''dry clean only'' silk.
We fix our favorite dinners
with the best we can afford.
So what if we eat pot-pies
on china plates you've stored.
What good are all the fancy things
if they are never used?
I like to say my stuff's 'broke-in'
(you might call it 'abused') .
My antique gravy boat makes the
perfect pencil case.
Somehow the crystal vases
seem a little out of place.
Paper plates and china...
they both attend our meals.
We like to use our fancy things
to know just how it feels.
Why wait until you make it big?
You might not see tomorrow.
If you run low on crystalware
we've got some you could borrow!
I agree wholeheartedly with this one Mary. One can store up loads of things that never get used in case one break them, and what is the point of this. If you can't enjoy them whats the point of having them. A jolly good poem here. Well done. love Ernestine XXX

the expensive items of life lifted even higher to that great place where they becames intimate with ordinary human existence a fine poem and wonderful
I'm reminded of times when growing up there were the 'good' dishes and the ones we would use everyday! One day I used the 'good' glass to get a drink and my mother had a fit! Those were the days when people were proud of 'everything' the had and respected everyone they knew! Nice poem. L
