When a Big City Embracing Poet
Birmingham-
My childhood remembrance
begins in the district of Majibag; *
when I first entered her street;
she offered her breast to me
showed me the fading pages of her history
Here I learned the grammar of cities
here parallel lines of life
touch each other.
I know Birmingham like an old friend.
She acquainted me with the falling leaves
ofVilla park;
in them I saw the innocent laughter of childhood
Here- silently
the canals merge into the river
and the river into the sea
The Titanic start her journey again
...
2001
* Majibag: poet's childhood district where grew up.
Here I learned the grammar of cities- - - - -> now that is using words in a startling but very fitting way! ! You have a close relationship with words and how they can and should be used! !
Here- silently the canals merge into the river and the river into the sea The Titanic start her journey again- - - - > the lines flow into that last line that captures your readers completely. Oh my word but that is how to " end" a poem by not ending it but sailing it off into the future!
Wonderful poem. Thank you for taking us to where you once belong.

I have grown to expect a great read when I open up one of your poems and I have yet to be disappointed! You have a huge talent and have honed your skills til they radiate light and mystery and sensitivity and darkness. Who but you would make this work? - - -> when I first entered her street; / she offered her breast to me / showed me the fading pages of her history< - - - that is poetry that the classic poets would have envied.
