When I Look At You (Dressing Room Mirror) Poem by Kewayne Wadley

When I Look At You (Dressing Room Mirror)

When I look at you, I see a part
Of myself that I know so well.
I see so much anxiety. So much stress
Built up with nowhere to go.
I will never forget the way you made
Me feel when you were 'unaware'
Seeing only what you wanted.
But now that I am aware.
I see a part of myself that I am proud
To know.
No longer stuck in the mirror
Of another person's reflection
In another person's opinion.
Free to go anywhere I want
Not all objects in the mirror
are as close
As they appear
