When They Leave The Fold Poem by louis rams

When They Leave The Fold

When your children are grown and you're left all alone
And memories fill your mind, having you lose track of time
Comical situations will come into view of all the things
That they put you through.
When they tried to hold that gas and they had to let it pass
And they turned to look at you to see if you heard it too.
The pride they showed when they got an "A" and you
Made it a special day.
When your son stood up against bullies defending his sister
And came home with just a bruise and a blister.
When he came home late one night and you started to fuss and fight
Then from his pocket he took out a surprise - the diamond
Earrings that had caught your eye.
The tears started to flow down your cheeks as you continued
To look at him and weep.
OH! It becomes so hard when they leave the fold and you
Feel all alone.
Yet for every holiday they are there and with them
Your memories you share.
Your children you brought up with ‘ TLC "
And that's the way it was meant to be.
