Where Memories Are Made Poem by Paula Glynn

Where Memories Are Made

The world is full of candy and bittersweet nostalgia
People travelling through manic and busy airports
Across the blue and green globe
From cold country to hot country
The airplane chockful of curious and wonderful people
All making their planned and constructive route
Or sometimes in a not so planned but an impulsive way.

Magical lands of different vibrant cultures beckoning
Religious beliefs: all different and all great
Memories of time impossible to reverse
The unpredictable weather unfortunately hitting
But still adding allure, charm and nostalgia
To young minds and hearts when looking back
A lifetime of memories that do enchant.

Memories of rain pelting on the house roof
The radiant rainbows shining on the white cloud horizon
The grey storm clouds causing thunderstorms
Thunder and lightning causing perpetual fear
To both people and their at-home vulnerable pets
Some storms everyone wanting to forget
Even though flourishing rainforests refreshed by the lashing rain.

The falling rain reducing the temperature
And feeding the trees, fields, plants and flowers
Children remembering the fresh smell of grass
The summer filled with the perfume of flowers
Footsteps on the wet school field grass
Running in cute baby blue jelly shoes
Children winning with happiness and not to lose.

Children and young people with confidence
Travelling with close family every summertime
To meet far away but important relatives
To meet treasured friends of the family
To meet girlfriend and boyfriend
To meet school friends for sleepovers
And to grow up united together through experience.

Whether these trips via train or airplane
The coach or the comfortable family car
And even a friend's car or Stagecoach bus
It is all going on watching out the daydream window
The air through the air conditioning does flow
Time taking from one temporary place to another
Many people singing the traveller's tune.

And trips to the seaside are wonderful
Sunning on the hot yellow sand in bare feet
Smoothing sun cream on sun scorched skin
Having a dip in the cooling blue waves
Going into deep water without being afraid
Eating sticky pink candyfloss on the pier
Sunglasses disguising those knowing eyes.

And the clock does continue on
With every person to tell their life story
Their lifestyle representative of themselves
All languages important to them
From Chinese, German, Spanish, French and English
Every language across the globe a work of verbal art
Every language and country having a rainbow magical heart.
