Who Are You? Poem by Tamra Craft

Who Are You?

Coward that you are, it doesn’t surprise me
Swept up in what society wants you to be.

Sad and pathetic, lying, always lying.
You claim to be trying, always trying.

You touch in closets leaving your mark.
You only show your true face in the dark.

You talk of the sky but your wings are clipped.
Your own heart cauterized my your finger tips.

Deliverance is what your dreams are made of.
Freedom is your unrequited love.

Surrounded my moonstone, pools of amber and jade.
Eyes you look out of from the prison you’ve made.

Rain that once held you free, dancing around.
Now, something beautiful you only watch hitting the ground.

I want to hit you! Shake you, choke you, shock you awake.
To force you to see what you are throwing away!

But you won’t listen, society is screaming louder than me
Telling you how to dress, how to act, who to be!

Where is this girl that used to laugh at the sheep?
How did she end up being a secret you keep?

She used to be the essence of everything that is freedom
So deeply feeling, so fearless, how far have we come…?

Once a soul gilded in iridescent white, bared to all
Now a dark grey shadow willing to crawl.

Such a leader to her own invisible army of faith
Now someone that only lives for someone else’s sake.

Why wont you listen why can’t I make you see
The beauty that could be found in who you used to be?
