And The Nation Cried

Reflections on the death of Princess Diana

And the nation cried,
As the word spread
Faster than the
Spoken word of God,
Because a princess died.

My morning tea, interrupted,
Unattended, grew cold
As did my heart, frantically
Pumping veins of blue.

I had hoped for a new beginning
For Charles, my heir, and for
His two sons of royal birth,
An end to the ugly now.
And so the nation cried.

But where was I in this farce?
Was I not Elizabeth,
Daughter of a King?
Didn’t I rule the waves?
Inside of me, my racing heart, ...
