Matthew Hyatt Poems

Today is the day
I wanted so much to say
Thanks for the tears
Thanks for the fears
...

These bars, cold iron and steel
Like death's touch they feel
Keeping me in my place they stand firm
While trapped here bad thoughts churn
...

The twinkle of a star
the color of a car
is never seen and adored
By the one with the Ink-Eyes.
...

Ten million people each with their problems
Why should anyone care?
They would only stop to gawk or stare
I see the city lights all around me
...

The ocean was once a place
Of beauty and grace
Nevermore shall it be
Since it took them away from me
...

The deck seems stacked against my favor
Leaving me only death to savor
The world has been a most cruel place
Stealing loved ones with an unfeeling grace
...

We loved eachother
Our hearts were warm

You loved me
...

To stare into eternity
Is to stare into your eyes
Perfectly holding the answers to the lies
I look at you, at your blank face
...

The darkness surrounds me
fills the void and caresses my skin
encouraging me to rise and sin
my mind turns ashen and corrupts my thoughts
...

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
Cast off the masks and let emotions fly
Let the false self die
...

He blew out his brains today
Just to say
He thought it was a shame
He wasn't to blame
...

It's time I disappear
And cause a tear
From those who find me dear
My resting place was never clear
...

In my place I'm meant to scream, fear, shed a tear
In my place I sit and wonder
What happens in my head I ponder
Endless whispers in my ear
...

I stand and wait for you
Through the cold wind and rain
for you to come back
and say your goodbyes
...

To those who never leave me alone
To them my hatred will hone
Not to something as beautiful as rain
But something filled with pain
...

Today we celebrate your life
With this special verse
As we watch the parade of the hearse
A glorious anthem of ended life
...

As I lay dying
I hope you are crying
For being the sole reason
That I killed myself today
...

I recall with a heavy sigh
Of days gone by
When I could saturate myself in you
Now I pay for my sins of the past
...

I am it, I am he
The man who will be
One who does not wear a frown
I wear funny bows and ties
...

I take a breath
And see my wife by my side
Her face stricken with tears
By her newfound list of fears
...

Thanks For The Pain

Today is the day
I wanted so much to say
Thanks for the tears
Thanks for the fears
Thank you for so many lost years
Thanks for the pain

Thanks for the black and blue affection
Thanks for the debt
Thank you for all the times you lost a bet
Thank you for causing so much strife
And last but not least.....
Thank you for taking my life.

Matthew shows incredible insight and talent in his poems. His imagery is dark but also reflective and uplifting; he has good rhythm and a gift for rhymes. Poems best read while listening to A Flock of Seagulls, particularily the song 'Nightmares'. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next. Your biggest fan, Kim McInnis
