A Poet In The Making Poem by David Taylor

A Poet In The Making

Rating: 5.0

Do you take poetry seriously
do you read when you're in bed
and cover your upholstery
with books of Keats or Tennyson,
do they circle round your head?
Do you think about the possibility
your poems will be read
by kings and queens, aristocracy
or all of us instead?
Do you stop when brushing teeth
to scribble down a phrase?
Do you miss the bus or train
because you couldn't leave,
until you had decided
if that full stop or apostrophe
is in its rightful place?
Do you dream of dancing sounds
that whirl around the mind
and wake up shouting out
yes! that's the one that rhymes?
Do you walk with the shining stars
and dance beneath the moon?
Does a fading sunset
make your heart fly up and say
that is so beautiful
are there any words that may
be a shadow of its beauty
as it announces the end of day?
If your answer is always yes
you know what I will say
you are a poet in the making,
please write for us today.

David, this is quite delightful - and recognizable too. A lyrical little reminder of who we are. Thanks for this. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And when sinking in the darkness of depression and light is fading fast, when pain is my companion and sadness enfolds my heart, what am I? Just a piece of flotsam on a sea of humanity, caught in deadly swirls of meaningless stupidity and awful eddies of nothingness - how to pull oneself up by the bootstraps like Von Munchhausen when sinking in the depths of melancholy loneliness that lives like the Monster of Loch Ness in my mind, ready to entrap each ray of sunshine and spirit each happy thought away - the mind is a Moloch demanding to be fed incessantly to try to keep it aloft to escape the pain below...

Rhyming poems are indeed very hard to write, I’ve read many that are forced..And only seem to slap the reader with it pungency.
