A Shout Above The Noize - Poem by Jay Pee Bryan

For so long echoes of my past
like the disjointed noises of the big city
acted as a barrier that drowned out the music I so longed to hear.

And then one evening,
amongst the confusion of sounds bathing me in isolation
I heard a shout above the noise.
A shout so loud that it was as if a chorus of angels backed by a sacred orchestra roared to life, enveloping me in a magnificent song of life.
It was a symphony of music so beautiful and uplifting that
I was filled with the strength to rise up above the smog of despair
and see, of all things, that which I least expected: hope.

That hope became desire.
And that desire evolved into love.

Now, I am reborn like a phoenix from the flames.
I have been given a gift from God
that has taken my soul from the world of daily struggle
to a higher plane of love and devotion.

I was rescued from a purgatory that threatened
to submerge me in its deadly monotony.
But before my final acceptance of banality,
I heard a shout about the noise.

Salvation bestowed upon me in the form of a magnificent young man.
