A sneak preview
As winter makes
Its debut…
Eateries launch
Steaming
Soup week.
Hawker sets up shop
Under Asoka tree;
Spice up the noon.
Young couples
Snuggle
Behind shrubs.
Stoles and sweaters;
Colours
Galore.
Man in rocking chair,
Newspaper on face
Sun bathes snores.
Women knit,
Gossip over
Hot cups of tea.
Men in blazers
Mufflers, jackets
Look dapper…
Girls put their best
Foot forward
In high boots.
Chrysanthemums
Nonchalantly
Steal the show.
Boys roll in wet grass
One atop the other,
Clothes stained green.
A woman in tatters
Shivers, sells
Incense sticks.
Cinnamon
Flavour
Of the season.
Grand father bats
Kid bowls;
Jumps with joy,
Shouts, out.
Leaves gleam like emeralds
Dance with breeze,
No fear of theft.
Boys play;
Beads of sweat on upper lip.
Sweaters tied
To the waist.
Egret and crow
Play in rose garden;
No warden.
Sunday picnics,
Parks alive
With mirth
And laughter.
First snow on hills,
Morning walkers
Shiver with chill.
Go nuts
Over nuts…
Kids rush,
Late for school bus
At crack of dawn,
Flushed cheeks,
Exhale white
Smoke
If winter comes,
Can love be
Far behind?
The season,
compelling
reason
To hold and hug
for warmth.
You take me to another world of winter and I love the experience. The imagery is captivating and warm. Each stanza is a charming poem picture.10/10 Always your friend, Sandra
it's a good poetic portrait...a really wide canvas...all colors well strewn in...10
The season, compelling reason To hold and hug for warmth. Who compelled you in this poem's reality? You are like a phantom listener or viewer of the entire Indian picnic show--kids bowl, kids roll, girls carry on in footsteps, women knitting sweaters, typical indianism galore-you find the same show somewhat in Australia and USA-they also could not try to be different. Nice recapitulation.
The season, compelling reason To hold and hug for warmth. the lines so close to my heart................................love premji
The poet's eyes take a 'sneak preview' of all the happenings on a Winter's day! While with a chilled glass of lemonade under a cool shade, we try to drive the Summer's heat away; the Winter is embraced with herbal tea and shawls and high- neck pullovers - when it comes our way! But the poet's keen eyes spots the begger women in tatters giving that human touch to Poetry - I must say! 10! -Raj
