A Woman Poem by Nosheen Irfan

A Woman

Rating: 5.0

You think you can hold me down
Keep me in a servile state
You think you can have your own
Unmindful of my feelings and desires
I'm deemed weak by your mad pride
Vulnerable, at your disposal, in your eyes
You are blind, you are wrong
That you can take me in your stride
Little do you know
What wealth I have inside
And you with all your might
Cannot steal it from me
Try as much as you might
To bend or break me
I am not an autumn leaf
You can trample on as you will
I am the flower that pricks
The hand that plucks it
I am the moon
That stirs the waves
And I am a woman
Who knows her worth.

Little do you know What wealth I have inside And you with all your might Cannot steal it from me Beautiful. Self-consciousness, revolutionary poem. so should all women be, Then the men will not exploit women. Sad to see that even in the 21st Centuary women are considered to be slaves. This poem you should spread and give it in Facebook and ask all the women to read it. Create a revolution and free women from Slavery. Take it as a divine call dear Poetess. thank you. tony

Hi Sheen, I am the moon That stirs the waves I am a woman Who knows her worth Very beautiful but stormy words. Your inner self has opened up to express your feelings and emotions. Loved reading. Thank you.

[...]I am not an autumn leaf You can trample on as you will I am the flower that pricks The hand that plucks it I am the moon That stirs the waves And I am a woman Who knows her worth.[...] Powerful and poignant. Your poem reminded me of Kishwar Naheed's wonderful poem 'I am not that Woman', where she says - 'I am the woman Whom you bought and sold In the name of my own chastity Not knowing That I can walk on water When I am drowning.' ____ A very powerful statement indeed. We need to have a society where 'womanhood' will not be defined by men, but women themselves will choose what they want to be. Thanks for sharing Nosheen. A powerful one with sheer beauty.10/10 :)

This poem has the power of a sweeping tide! It reminds me of Maya Angelou's poem Still I Rise and Phenomenal woman! Only a woman who has a sense of self worth can prosper in this male dominated society!
