Albert Einstein 71 - dr. Einstein Meets Charlie Chaplin Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

During Dr. Einstein's stay in California,
He had the opportunity to meet film stars
And to watch Hollywood movies too.
He was invited as a guest of honour
At the Hollywood Premier show of
Charlie Chaplin's film - ‘City Lights'.
It was a big event,
When the two great personalities met!

The Media went into a frenzy, as cameras flashed,
When the two celebrities stood shoulder to shoulder,
Smiling together, at the premier show, both of them
Expressing tremendous admiration for each other.
Dr. Einstein wrote to his friends in Germany
About his thrilling meeting with the great Actor -
Charlie Chaplin - who was ‘as charming in real life,
As he was in his films'!

Charles Chaplin writes in his "My Autobiography"
"I first met Einstein in 1926,
When he came to California to lecture.
I have a theory that scientists and philosophers are
Are sublimated romanticists who channel
Their passion in another direction.
This theory fitted well the personality of Einstein.
He looked the typical Alpine German,
In the nicest sense, jovial and friendly.
And although his manner was calm and gentle,
I felt it concealed a highly emotional temperament,
And that from this source came
His extraordinary intellectual energy."
