In the misty moon -lit night an angel did alight
Peeped me through the window-
With my beloved holding tight.
She was smiling at me with a gleam in her face
Having a glowing ring all around her head.
I jumped up with a maddening joy -
And told her to come near me.
But with a majestic smile in her face
She was nodding her head, didn't move.
I asked her - 'then why my dear? Again to make me cry '!
She told me 'Oh' dear I also do cry and ought to be with thine
But the body what I left, can never get back again.
The angel brought me tonight to see you and say hello-
I was always yours and still I am thine'.
With a pool of tears in my eyes I waved my hands out,
The angel with a lovely smile started to fly -
Clasping you under her wings, saying good bye.
I sprang up in my bed, rubbing my tearing eyes
Still in a hallucination thinking where was I?
In the morning's soothing light - I looked up in the sky
I shouted with a cry
'Oh' dear -I will come very soon -you just wait for mine'
Looking blankly through the window panes
Found a white cloud was leisurely passing by -
Slowly away from my sight………

Amitava, beautiful, sad, some joy, all in one poem. Got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. Wanted you to be able to hold on to her, but the angel took her away from you again in your poem. Totally loved it, Amitava, it's a perfect 10. RoseAnn
Oh, meant to say hope you had a great birthday, and many happy returns.
Very beautiful and poignant Amitava. Those of us who have lost loved ones can relate to this, yearning to see them again.

I would love to read 'An Angel in the Night II by Amitava Sur' in which Amitava talks and laughs with his beloved angel and sees no distance between them anymore. Perhaps you might feel able to write such a continuation after reading 'Death is Nothing at All' by Henry Scott Holland. I hope reading it brings you comfort and joy.
Births anniversary brought you an angel so sad when one loses someone close...your saving star will join you together one day thats what I feel in this lovely poem...regards
I have read many poems on a birthday but this one is different in style. Although too late but I wish many more to lovely Amitava. I expect next time I shall read another beautiful poem from Amitava.
