Another Meeting - Poem by Barry Conway

ANOTHER MEETING

ANOTHER MEETING,
ANOTHER GREETING,
LOOSING COUNT,
SUCH IS THE MOUNT,
I RIDE.

YET THIS MEETING,
THIS GREETING,
IS SET UPON GREEN,
WITH CHICKENS,
WHO ARE THE DREAM OF CHICKENS,
WITH PLUMAGE FAIR,
ROAMING HERE,
ROAMING THERE,
WITHOUT THE CARE,
OF THE COOKING POT.

DEEP WATER LAKE,
COFFEE, CAKE,
FOOD AND ALE,
TO THE PEACOCKS WAIL,
RENOWNED IN IT'S; OT,
I KID YOU NOT,
TURTLEY CORN MILL,
WITH THE TURN OF THE WHEEL,
WHAT A THRILL,
TO WAIT,
IN THE EARLY LATE,
OF MY FUTURE FATE,
FOR THIS MEETING,
THIS GREETING,
WITH A FLEETING SMILE,
RISING,
NO SURPRISING,
THERE THEN.

ANOTHER IN THE HOPE,
OF A LOVELY ROPE,
TO TIE AROUND MY HEART,
TO KEEP IT WHOLE,
TO PLUG UP THE HOLE,
TO STOP THE CYNICISM,
THE CRITICISM,
TO BREAK THE BLOOD
TO STOP THE FLOOD
FROM BREAKING THROUGH,
A JAGGED HUE,
WITHIN IT'S AGELESS QUEST,
THE TEST,
OF LOVE.

SO WHAT,
WILL THIS MEETING,
THIS GREETING,
BRING,
A SONG TO SING?
OR THE TIRELESS RING,
OF THE BELL OF DISAPPOINTMENT.
OH JOY,
OH HAPPY DAY, AT LEAST IN THE WAIT,
OF EXPECTATION,
THE OPTIMISM OF LOVE,
A TURTLE DOVE,
TO WOO,
TO COO,
THROUGH AND THROUGH.

THE LESSENING YEARS,
THE LESSENING TEARS,
MAKE ONES CHOICES,
FEWER,
FOR ME,
FOR YOU.
EVEN SO,
WE MUST TAKE,
THOSE LESSENING YEARS,
WITH GUSTO,
OR FADE,
AS A FLOWER,
WITHOUT THE SUN.
