Bicycles Around The Moon Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Bicycles Around The Moon

Rating: 5.0

Lonely couples through the night as they travel along
Stepping pedals that go round and around for a while
With two innocent hearts maybe not knowing what’s wrong
Though they already knew they may be lovers with guile.

Joining the others, I see them go on and play games
As the fogs of their cigarettes filled their sky with clouds,
Believing a lie that they are stars of lovely flames
As they embrace each other while covered by stained shrouds.

However, proud as they think they are for the moment,
I know the foolish things they believe and hold on to.
For even they blame the wheels of where they’ve gone and went,
They were the ones steering the handle as night passed through.

Then still on wheels, but now with last cards to risk and choose,
Knowing their own strangers more than supposed to be
Until sad songs give someone a reason for the blues,
Until shattered moonlight skies scatter out the debris.

Bicycles around the moon, when people fly in pairs
And then returning home broken somewhere in the night.
So my fellow youth, be careful in all your affairs
Because we must preserve a rare gift for what is right.
