Bulbulic Child Poem by Denis Mair

Bulbulic Child

Rating: 5.0

Cooing and chirping and gurgling
Trying out bulbulic variations
Aahhjuuh, Aahbbhuuh!
Ehmmah, Uhmmah!
Experimental piping and mewing
Like a whole clutch of nestlings
Letting out a sudden monkey screech
An attempt at a Bronx cheer
Burbling and gushing
Chortling like an artesian well
Percolating up from bedrock layers
Announcing the life of a new era

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
BULBUL is a Persian word meaning nightingale. (In English BULBUL refers to passerine birds such as brownbuls and leafloves.)I like the sound of BULBUL, so I borrowed it to describe my grandson's cooing.
