I woke up this morning
in a driving snow,
found it time to get up
my get up and go -
If you really want
things done right,
make a plan
in the dead of night -
Cold clouds come
to cover the soul,
a man gets things done
as he learns how to grow -
I heard a long, lonesome
whistle blow,
so I packed a bag...
not knowing which way to go -
Old dogs take time
on the trail,
sniffing up scents
of low flying quail -
A good love
is hard to find,
a true loving woman... well, she's
one-of-a-kind -
I'd gladly lose my worried mind
just to save my cold heart,
if only I knew how
and where to start -
But, I don't have it
all together,
so I'll keep moving on
searching for some warm weather -
I carry an old candle
to light the way,
a little warmth
just for today -
This cold's been a long time coming...
sometimes love just goes wrong;
the clouds may hang around,
but, when the sun comes,
these blues will be a long time gone -
Looking at line 4, get up and go.. My 'get-up-and-go' already got up and went.
You have a Hank Williams song title somewhere in your poem. Can you see it?
Great poem, Smoky. I hope you find your way out of the snowstorm soon!
faved it too--so I might return and read it time after time
there is so much about the human condition in this unpretentious poem---that might be indeed the hallmark of much of your poetry--it says so much in such a human way---top top top marks
This poem, so easy to read and like. So sincere and natural that gives it that unforgettable interest and poetic might. A true pleasure. Thank you!
