Conundra Poem by Denis Mair

Conundra

Rating: 5.0

Like soul-force between two beings, gravity is only felt between two objects... It sends one thing whirling around another, and that is supposed to be a kind of falling! ? Despite gravity trying to pull things together, on a cosmic scale, they are actually flying apart. There are equations predicting how fast that is supposed to happen...but since cosmic expansion is unfolding differently than expected, we factor in dark energy to tweak the expansion rate and save the equations. That's like adding epicycles to make a planetary orbit 'regular' before we knew it was elliptical and that it wobbled. We often double the mystification by jumping to conclusions. Now there are scientists who say that stars may vent plasma jets intentionally, to keep a proper distance from each other and avoid getting snared in clouds of nebular dust. Cooler stars like our sun move more quickly around the galactic center than hotter stars of similar mass. No one has been able to explain this discrepancy. Intentional venting of plasma jets could save the equations just as well as hypothetical dark matter, as long as you're willing to believe in sentient stars. Why not? The great conundrums deserve to be pondered fancifully, to let our existential predicament be part of the solution. Go to the beach where waves of the ages pounded huge rocks to smoothness. Indeed, sand is a conducive surface to rest on while indulging in reveries across the brocade of time.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
You can read Greg Matloff's posts about the possible sentience of stars on the Centauri Dreams blog. Matloff also conjectures that the dark energy which increases the cosmic expansion rate may belong to a cosmos-wide field of proto-consciousness.(Wiki) In the heliocentric Hipparchian and Ptolemaic systems of astronomy, the epicycle (meaning a circle moving on another circle) was a geometric model used to explain the variations in speed and direction of the apparent motion of the planets. Epicycles worked... because any smooth curve can be approximated with a sufficient number of epicycles. However, they fell out of favour with the discovery [after Copernicus] that planetary motions were largely elliptical from a heliocentric frame of reference, which led to the discovery that gravity obeying a simple inverse square law could better explain all planetary motions. When Copernicus transformed Earth-based observations to heliocentric coordinates, he was confronted with an entirely new problem. The Sun-centered positions displayed a cyclical motion with respect to time but without retrograde loops in the case of the outer planets. In principle, the heliocentric motion was simpler but with new subtleties due to the yet-to-be-discovered elliptical shape of the orbits. Another complication was caused by a problem that Copernicus never solved: correctly accounting for the motion of the Earth in the coordinate transformation [i.e., wobbling]. In keeping with past practice, Copernicus used the deferent/epicycle model in his theory but his epicycles were small and were called 'epicyclets'.(Wiki)

It is really interesting to ponder over the mysteries of the Universe- - " Go to the beach where waves of the ages pounded huge rocks to smoothness, Indeed, sand is a conducive surface to rest on while indulging in reveries across the brocade of time." (Part-2}

A great piece of writing about the mysteries and puzzles of the Cosmos. " Now there are scientists who say that stars may vent plasma jets intentionally, to keep a proper distance from each other and avoid getting snared in clouds of nebular dust. " (Part-1)

Stars venting plasma jets intentionally, woah does make even black holes purposeful, I'm very much for purpose behind every phenomenon. A brilliant stellar pondering muse on the astral scenarios and yes lying on the beach or even sitting is very conducive to reveries like you said so poetically, creatively. Kudos for a bright poem. You may read my ladyish muse titled, 'pink mania inking'

" Since it's happening differently than expected, we factor in invisible mass to tweak the expansion rate..." I can relate. So many mysteries, and so much time. Please see my poem Big Bang Creation.
