Dear Elena, On Christmas Eve.... [ Bri's Response To P H's Elena Plotkin's Lovely Holiday Wishes For Bri; Short; Santa's Elf (One Of Them) ]

X-mas will be OK if I've cereal & a bit of bread.
Yes, I'll have 'hot chocolate' and I'll eat "my fill".
Our reindeer will eat as well. [[ Our overhead! ! ]]
Each North Pole mail-day brings yet another bill!

Oats is ten bucks a bag! THAT bill, "S" & I so dread.
Deer get ROOT Beer. ……(We have never HAD a still)

And: ............................

Do kids think presents grow on 'Present Trees'?
I shall slap them 'silly' as they ride my boss's knees....
IF they repeat: 'More. More! ', but NEVER 'please'.

And: .............................

Tonight the deer will fly us to your own house;
it had better be 'as quiet as a dead dormouse'!

As you have wished ME, I shall now wish YOU....too:
'May none of your days, with hardships, be fraught,
but if some crop up, I hope you can 'work it through'.'

AND:

[Don't peek 'too soon' at what, for you, we've brought! ]

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Dear Bri, the elf at the North Pole, The poem I inspired makes it seem as you are penniless and this I quite understand. My pennies flow rapidly too... right out of my hand. When holidays come the young ones do expect a lot from us. Enough presents that can fill a sleigh or a school bus. There are never any 'pleases' but 'thank yous' can still be heard. Sometimes an emotional 'I love you' can be stirred. True the system is broken and badly in need of an overhaul. Children simply shouldn't be allowed to have it all. They should be put to work growing present trees and sorting bills. They should be picking oats and building stills. But until that day comes, I guess it's business like usual up in the North Pole, Or else no more cereal and bread just lumps of black coal. Happy New Year! !

Dear Bri, A Merry X-mas and Happy New Year! Eat your fill and drink with Good Cheer! But don't forget to feed the Reindeer! I heard they can't get enough of oats and beer! And no matter where your life may steer Hope all your troubles disappear Nevermore to reappear And so too for those you hold dear! (C) 2016 Copyright Elena Plotkin
