Erna And Sylvia Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

Erna And Sylvia

Rating: 4.2

The Poem:
Erna is 1-year younger
both studied English language and literature

she is from Pekalongan in Central Java
Sylvia is from Jakarta in West Java

Now I will turn the time considerably further:
she became a high school teacher
and I am the teacher of the students,

she is not happily married, and they had one son,
they moved from Jakarta to Salatiga,

He passed away 4 years ago
she has rented many rooms to working ladies,

her only son lives in Singapore,1-hour flight from Jakarta,
she was not happy either because her daughter-in-law is ten years older than her son, but Erna did get 1 grandson,

Erna will go to the hospital in Singapore if she
need a doctor or specialist. Just 1 hour's flight,
she likes the hospital in Singapore because
they have good doctors and specialists,

very unfortunate that it is still Covid-19 with the Delta variant, otherwise I would have visited her long ago in her new mansion in Salatiga.

The Epilogue:
Erna, like Sylvia Plath, was born towards the end of October,
another year of course, like her most favourite poetess, Erna was not happy in her marriage, but I ought Erna in a wealthier situation than Sylvia Plath, Plath had two toddlers and no money in the midst of coldest winter in London, and she lives separated from her husband, while Erna's spouse loved and spoilt her tremendously when he was still alive. As we all know, Plath committed suicide, her head in the hot oven.

We can derive a lesson in life from other's life. Happiness in life is not handed overnight. We must work for it.

A wonderful poem that depicts how two great women led their life's journey. Sometimes our fate is framed by God's hands yet we have also our own contributions that could pave our life.

Its indeed a beautiful composition Sylvia, how you have narrated is quite soulful about financial crisis and unfortunate self destruction! The epilogue is another epitome of relentless struggle and human destiny! God
