False Hopes

Rating: 3.8

FALSE HOPES
She appeared just from nowhere
And I fell in love with her.
I thought she was my love forever
But she turned out to be a blur.

I wanted her to be my friend
Rejoiced for no seeming reason,
Believed she'd love me in the end
But she fooled me and left me freezin'.

I thought she was my joy,
Star on the path of my life,
Believed in her - half-witted boy!
And wished her to be my wife.

She was the devil incarnate,
The very Devil in her flesh.
Her eyes were evil, full of hate.
They were sullen, never fresh.

Although she was young of age,
She sounded off like a subhuman.
With youthful spleen and warlike rage,
And I preferred an earth(l)y woman.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem describes the actual events of fifty years ago. The girl was 10 years younger than me. Let's say some 20 years old. She had everything, including money. Only she was arrogant and overconfident. Her mother (who was divorced)held a high position in the government of the city near Moscow. She could make a patronage and provide a good career for her daughter's husband. But I chose, so to say, an earthy woman who has been my wife 50 odd years since then.
