Flower 7- The Beaming Bougainvillea Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Flower 7- The Beaming Bougainvillea

Rating: 5.0

Bougainvillea,
Splashes its colours through its bracts
Beaming plant,
Spreading, branching, blending like a flame.

Colour red of a glowing sunrise,
Orange colour of a soothing sunset,
Colour pink like pretty angel's wings,
O! Golden shades of juicy mangoes.

Serene, yet colourful, Bougainvillea,
Attractive colours through its silky bracts,
So soft, tender, glassy and bright,
Signalling as a brand, showy and flashy.

Do not be misguided
By these dazzling beauties,
Do not misunderstand them as petals or
Beautiful flowers, they are just coloured bracts.

The tiny white flowers of Bougainvillea
Are tactfully hidden, enveloped by the bracts,
To protect from the pecking birds,
And to guard from the pestering bees.

Thorns abound the branches of Bougainvillea,
Are bodyguards of these tropical flames.
Think not to dismiss these playful bracts,
As they are a joyous tribute to the kingdom of plants.

A poem of six verses with four lines each.
