Friday The Thirteenth Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

Friday The Thirteenth

Rating: 5.0

Friday The Thirteenth

Land of freedom of speech,
country of multifaceted thinking and democracy
land of immense wealth,
maintain health and confidence
on what comes tomorrow

but age-old superstition
is still persistently preserved
a black cat is bad luck
Walking under stairs can quickly ruin your day
and no delivery on Friday the thirteenth,

like years ago, when I first arrived
at the neighborhood coffee morning
these conversations have not yet soured
superstition is and remains as it was!

Poetess' Note:
I had the sweetest black cat
I look very carefully and I make sure
that my feet do not hit the stairs bump
Our second son was born on Friday the thirteenth, sturdy, big, healthy, handsome and very happy.

And indeed, as you remind, there are those good things that happen on the 13th. And there are those great things that defy the superstitious mind. A fantastic verse, Sylvia,

Superstitious beliefs are like swords hanging over our heads. We fear of that which is unknown. I concur with the thoughts of the great Poetess that age old superstition is persistently preserved even in rich countries and even if we have advance technology. They have been embedded in our culture.

Many of us could resonate with this wonderful and well expressed poem of the great Poetess. Friday the thirteenth is one of the 10 common superstitions because of the no.13. We always fear this number.
