He Thought He Was A Man Poem by Nosheen Irfan

He Thought He Was A Man

Rating: 5.0

His father owned a gun, bigger than a shotgun
That killed not just a bird but…..
You don't need a head to use a gun
Just a firm hand and a callous heart
So he hated the school
Where only head worked fine
And the hands and the heart got tired

He wanted to be like his father
Strutting around, a gun slung over his shoulder
A pistol strapped to his side
Ready for a shot, any time
His mother never came out with her face showing
For she was a good woman with no voice
And no thoughts

He grew up a man
With a gun slung over his shoulder
A pistol strapped to his side
Always ready for a brawl
The little bit of school in him already dead
He strutted around
Shooting his way into ignorance

He loved his gun
For you don't need a head to use it
Just a firm hand and a callous heart
And that's what he thought
made him a man.

His mother never came out with her face showing For she was a good woman with no voice And no thoughts Age old era of the jagirdars and their pathetic lifestyle suppressing the people with their power and woman for them is just a show piece without a life. Very nice thought and yes that's what he thought made him a man...A man without conscience.10++++ for writing the truth.

Adding to what Souren has written below, Man is a Man only when he respects his fellow human-beings, especially women! Wonderful write.

I probably have a very good idea about what gun you are talking about Nosheen. This is the most pathetic thing that has ruined both men and women, and society at large.. 'Be a man! ' and 'Act like a lady (or girl, or woman, or 'something that exists only in the minds of hypocrites') - these lines have ruined more lives than any wars.. For why? ? Why should a man needs to show off his 'gun' to prove his 'manliness'? ? If he is really that much of a man why does he need to show off at all? ? Jerks. Plain hypocritical jerks only.. It is just because of such people with such mindsets in the society that we have so much trouble.. Mock anything that is 'not-manly' and glorify violence, anger, and destruction.. Crazy things.. I hate hyper-manliness more than anything in the world, I destest it.. Thank you for sharing Nosheen... A poignant write..
