Homeward Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Homeward

Your hello was like a step through the front door,
Warm & comforting,
A sincere place that reminded me of home,
Yet,
Far away, my heart fluttered wildly before resting its head,
Inviting was your essence, a taste of the senses,
A tender caress of the warmth felt upon first entering,
Was this a fantasy that eluded a natural feeling,
A deep need that followed as every smile, every laugh felt familiar,
A place like home,
Was I ever the same before this feeling,
No longer in the cold,
Alone by the fires that brought the thought of you,
Your hello swept past like the fresh wind that bellowed through the front porch,
Never stopping, only passing by to bless with its presence,
Weeping through the open spindles,
Pressing up against the front boards,
Pressing against the thought of the welcome mat that presents itself with each visit,
A simple walk up the driveway to a picture painted perfectly,
By the thought of you,
Again my heart fluttered,
As the smile that appeared never faded,
Never to Fade as the trees that tarnish as the season changes from one to the next,
Never to Fade as the leafs left behind,
Now withered, searching for a new place to call home before dissipating back to the ground from where its journey first began,
With eyes closed I can see the windows of your soul,
The depth your eyes pierce,
With no place to go,
As all the ill's of the world,
Fade into the hello of your smile
