I Go On Loving You Poem by Practicing Poetess

I Go On Loving You

Rating: 5.0

It's been a long, long time
Since I could call you mine
You haven't been around,
Although you're still in town.
Your life is different now
And yet, I know somehow
You're still a part of mine
If only in my mind.

I go on loving you,
But what good does it do?
The love I feel so much
Has nothing left to touch.
You're still the world to me,
Not just a memory.
I hope you'll soon one day
Come back to me to stay.

You're full of need, like me
I wonder when you'll see
We mainly need to give
Our love a chance to live.
We've both been hurt before
But, this I know for sure
If we don't try again
We'll both lose in the end.

I go on loving you,
But what good does it do?
The love I feel so much
Has nothing left to touch.
You mean the world to me,
Not just a memory.
I hope you'll soon one day
Come back to me to stay.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is one of my older poems.
This is also what comes of listening to too much Dionne Warwick! Despite her superb voice and the lovely songwriting team of Bacharach & David, in some of her earliest songs, she really wallowed in it.

The whimsical and temperamental nature of love are aptly captured in the piece. An insightful piece of poetry nicely embellished in poetic rhyme. Heartfelt and very passionate. Thanks for sharing Poetess.
