I'M Afraid To Go To Church - Poem by Mary Nagy

I'm afraid to go to church
for fear of what they'll say.
What if I don't know the words
to join in as they pray?

I'm afraid to go to church
because I fear they'll know.
I worry that my ignorance
is all that's going to show.

I'm afraid to go to church
although I'm not sure why.
I think about it every week
but yet I never try.

I want to go to church.
I'm just so dang afraid.
I crave to enter the house of God
and share the life we've made.

Ironic how the very place inwhich we are taught not to judge others is the very place in which we fear being judged. Christians are not perfect, Mary.... just forgiven!

I'm always afraid there no God, but I go to church because I believe in people being kind to each other, Mary, I believe in your kindness. (Report) Reply

    Mary,

I don't think you should go in. Stay away from all those hypocrits. They'll make a sinner out of you. smiles

Read my poem, 'The Call from on High' and if that doesn't give you a laugh, and confidence to enter the Church, I'll be surprised. It's only a case of getting through the door, once there you'll be fine, and everyone else in there has problems, we all have, so they are no different from you. I love reading your poems they are so 'actual'. The real stuff of life. Great write. Love Ernestine XXX Your A M.XXX (Report) Reply
