I'M The Happiness - Poem by Amrit Rathi

After the exercises, I often feel,
when sitting lazily, slightly tired,
that the stream of thoughts comes to a halt,
dries up the incessant flow of cares.
Deep inside a strange stillness appears.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Sometimes when I dance and sing,
rapt in the beats and melodious tune,
totally unaware of worldly affairs,
then all the thinking starts to fade,
and Life’s a rhythm with wings spread.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Once in a while I like to cook,
trying out various ingredients, spices.
Timeless precision then enters each step;
a recipe turns into the passion of Heart,
or a labor of Love, Creativity, Art!
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Often when I travel to unfamiliar places,
my senses relish the new experiences.
Curiosity envelops my whole awareness,
the present moment then comes alive.
Past or Future leave nothing to revive.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

The beauty of clouds moving across the sky!
The sound of rain and the songs of birds!
A starry night and snow-covered range
fill a strange stillness in the whole of nature
that blurs self-images, blurs false stature.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Or I sit in a secluded corner of my home,
and watch my breaths coming in and out,
sensations like water dripping from leaves.
Unique joy arises in every pore of my being,
no more thoughts, nor emotion, only the seeing.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

I feel remorse when I dwell in the Past,
anxious when I run after the Future,
The Past's to learn, the Future's to plan.
The Present’s the glorious arena of Action,
Take on the call with full might and passion!
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Do I feel happy with riches and fame?
Can power or wisdom ever satisfy?
It dawned on me not to give them a damn,
and reactions softly disappeared over time,
calming my thoughts, and life looked sublime!
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Weaving my work with threads of love,
the artist in me pours into it my whole.
Focusing on the tiniest detail, I move
into the Now, taking care of the bright future,
like plants to water, dreams to nurture.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

Let me touch a work, a relationship, an object,
or a thought with love, joy and peace,
and make it sparkle with excellence and beauty,
creative juices flowing from me, the root source,
and awaken awareness, the glowing life force.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I'm more content, more alive, I find.

With loving kindness, let me see myself in others.
Like me, they, too, have dreams and longings.
A spark of the divine – we are all the same,
so let me sprinkle the whole world with care.
I am the happiness to spread and share.
My station in life doesn’t cross my mind;
I am the happiness, more alive, I find.

These are thy glimpses.
Oh! Sometimes I see,
I am the happiness,
this is the real me.
Stillness beyond Ego
brings me nearer to Thee!

    Can power or wisdom ever satisfy?
    Wise man poem and you are really lead with style. Experiences makes this poem very contemporary but reality binds. Ordinary man with ordinary ordeal without extravagant dream. Thats what i can say after reading this poem.
    10+ for you sir.

    Fabulous. You have packaged tonnes of philosophy into this incredible work of art. It felt like going on a long and tranquil train journey on a picturesque route and enjoying every bit of a slice of life at every moment of the journey totally unaware of where we are yet completely living out that instant. So much positive energy flows through in your work!

    Repetition of these two lines reiterates the essence of the poem:
    What's my station in the world doesn't cross the mind,
    I 'm more content, more alive I find.

    The best lines in my opinion:

    The beauty of the clouds moving across the sky!
    Or the sound of the rain and the songs of birds!
    A starry night and the snow covered ranges!
    The stillness strangely fills the whole nature,
    And blurs all the self-images, my false stature.

    A sure 10++++ here, too. Tonnes of thanks for sharing.

    You are one of the fortunate ones who can tune into meditation. One of the most difficult but most profound ways, usually reserved for young people with the energy to focus enough, is to follow a thought to the end or through its linkage (linked thoughts) to the end, at which the thinking stops, and only watching remains. No big deal over other ways but it is the profoundest and most seldom done; one way of actually sometimes resolving a problem. As you probably already know, a problem disappears, gets resolved rather than answered through a successful meditation on it. Difficult and somewhat rare, any way you go about it. I guess that's why we usually count ourselves lucky just to be able to get some quietness and not expect to solve any problems directly. We are any of us lucky to be able to get into the meditation. You seem to be one of the more successful ones. (Report) Reply

    ‘The present moment then comes alive. /And Past or Future left nothing to revive’

    To be happy is to live in present and not fuss over past and future …over which one has no control…and so you’re, ‘I 'm the happiness, more alive I find.’

    Finally you’ve concluded ‘Stillness beyond the Ego/What brings me near Thee! ’
    Excellent conclusion …rhapsodic Sir

    It is all inside of us.
    The soul, the biggest source of happiness
    only heard when we quiet the thoughts of our ego.
    I feel I really can connect to this poem
    The poem makes me feel like
    exploring more of the depth of my soul.

    Thanks Amrit,

    Superb poetry. Many a poet floated through my mind while reading this poem. Wordsworthian wanderings and wand. Although a lengthy one but quite engaging.

    True! We get glimpse of stillness and our ego leaving us in all the activities you are describing in your poem. We certainly feel joyful and happy in that state, and as you say nearer to God.
    [I'm the happiness.
    And the real me is this,
    Stillness beyond the Ego
    What brings me near Thee! ]
    A GREAT INSIGHT! Keep writing such stuff. God bless you.
