Is This Us? - Poem by Hossock Tere

It wasn't long enough to notice
The ankles dragging breathlessly
Only the shortest words dwell

Trapped as they are
Strapped to poets
For money and success
Paragraphs rest

Won't you agree? -
This portrait is sick!

Don't watch the shrubbery dance
You will be surrendered like a terrorist

Don't think, don't be free fucker
You like it this way

You're safe, you're sane
We've found someone new to blame

Just please stop dancing in the wind
Relinquish control!
We know what is best for you

At least the wealthy think it's just
Is this us?

Jump off because we'll tell you how to fly
Jump off and you'll be ok
Just make sure you do what we say

I am not awake anymore
Help me close my senses
To the dischordant racket below
I feel myself swallow
My mouth is dry, my eyes are numb
The endless barrage continues to drum

Please stop thinking
Let me please stop
