It Will Improve Our Image Poem by Rajnish Manga

It Will Improve Our Image

Rating: 5.0

Five more workers inhaled poisonous gas and died
After they went down to clean a choked sewer In Ghaziabad.
During the first six months of the current year- 2019
As many as 50 sanitary workers have died so far
Contrary to the official guidelines on the subject
They had no safety gear or insurance cover.
A small compensation will not provide succour
But a policy change and its strict compliance can help
It can also improve our image in the eyes of the world.

Such unfortunate incidents keep occurring. Unfortunately not enough safety measures are taken to avert such tragedies. When precious lives are lost, soon some precautions are taken. But in course of time we forget everything and history repeats. It is a shame on our country that people work under very unsafe conditions and their families happen to be thrown into destitution once when the breadwinner of the family dies. A poem to alert the people in power!

Dear Manga Ji, you have so touchingly highlighted the problem of sanitary workers here through this poem. Thanks for sharing.

Four more workers have died in Rajasthan yesterday. Such is the level of indifference of concerned departments. This goes on with impunity. What is the value of their lives?

It is very poor that the men had to work in such dangerous conditions.

Yes, this is a fact and it continues despite laws prohibiting manual scavenging. Rules are often overlooked or thrown to winds.

We have no dearth of do's and don'ts and a plethora of laws, but little implementation, because law and justice is not feared, not a deterrence and will remain so as long as our justice delivery remains slow. You've highlighted the problem so well.

What you have written is absolutely correct but it is the callous implementation of rules and regulations as well as penchant for a status quo in such matters.
