Jennifer Garner: Alias Legend Poem by Paula Glynn

Jennifer Garner: Alias Legend

Jennifer Garner born happy
With the perfect middle name Anne
On the wonderful day of April 17,1972
In the hot county of Houston, Texas, USA
And grew up in Charleston, West Virginia,
From the age of three
A vision of the future Jennifer did see
Now aged 50 years old in 2022
But no matter the years going past
Her onscreen youth will forever last.

Her father, William John Garner,
Worked as a chemical engineer for Union Carbide;
Her mother, Patricia Ann English,
Being a homemaker and later an English teacher at a local college
Jennifer having two sisters
Garner describing herself as a typical middle child
And Jennifer was definitely fun, confident and wild
And even today Jennifer embraces her inner child
Who sought to differentiate herself from her accomplished older sister
While Garner did not grow up in a politically active household
Her father was 'very conservative'
And her mother 'quietly blue'
Yet letting Jennifer have done what she did go on to do.

She attended a local United Methodist Church
Every Sunday and went to Vacation Bible School
Religion and morals important in her upbringing
Even sometimes being creative and doing fun singing
As teenagers, she and her sisters were not allowed to wear makeup,
Paint their nails, pierce their ears, or dye their hair
Even though for their appearance they did care
She has joked that her family's 'take on the world' was 'practically Amish'
She attended George Washington High School in Charleston
In 1990, Garner enrolled at Denison University in Granville, Ohio
Where she changed her major from chemistry to theatre
Making the right decision:
Even though many years would pass before a breakthrough
Jennifer to see things through
Jennifer was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority
She spent the fall semester of 1993 studying at the National Theatre Institute
At the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Centre in Waterford, Connecticut
During college summers, she worked summer stock theatre
In 1994, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre performance
Acting her craft, her art, her genius and her destiny.

Jennifer Garner studied theatre at Denison University
Beginning acting as an understudy
For the Roundabout Theatre Company
Finding a property in notoriously difficult New York City
Even for young women like Jennifer who are pretty
Jennifer would make her screen debut in the television adaptation
Of Danielle Steel's romance novel Zoya in 1995
Jennifer's character coming alive

Jennifer still young at this point and doing an amazing performance
That will never be forgotten by the audiences across the world.

Along with supporting film roles,
Every DVD and television show sold
Where Jennifer lives a life that is bold
Including teen drama television series Time of Your Life (1999-2000)
A supporting role in the war drama Pearl Harbor (2001)
Success in film: Jennifer having won
Garner gaining recognition for her leading performance
As CIA officer Sydney Bristow: a character with different facets
In the ABC spy-action thriller television series Alias (2001-2006)
Playing Sydney Bristow that forever kicks
Spectacular work that makes Jennifer Garner a true legend
And a TV series that will always have its fans
For red hair is better
Jennifer a trend setter
And for her work on the series, she won
The Golden Globe for Best Actress - Television Series Drama
And the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama
In addition to four consecutive nominations for
The Primetime Emmy Award For Outstanding Lead Actress In a Drama Series
Her film work no one to ignore.

She received additional praise for her performance
In the hilarious romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 (2004)
Garner played the girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher's character
In the comedy Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
Another very funny comedy that appeals to all ages
Addictive like the turning of a books pages
In 2001, she appeared briefly opposite her husband Foley
In the drama Stealing Time
A drama worth watching any time and every time
Going on to portray Elektra in the superhero films Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005)
Starring with Ben Affleck: the man to father her children
She continued to achieve commercial success
Always stylish and creatively dressed
With performances in the comedy-drama Juno (2007)
And the romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009)
The romantic comedy Valentine's Day (2010)
Garner had starring film roles in the fantasy-comedy The Invention of Lying (2009)
A deep message with its sign

A story that is creative and does deeply delve
The biographic drama Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
The latter of which earned her a nomination for
Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
She went on to star in the family comedy

Garner has also produced and starred in the comedy Butter (2011)
And also the brilliant drama Yes Day (2021)
Jennifer Garner making yet another star performance.

As a college student, Garner did summer stock theatre
In addition to performing,
Garner helped sell tickets, build sets, and clean the venues
Work she would not do again
But does not regret
For she took the risk to follow her dreams:
Dreams she'll never regret or forget
All the world on her team
She worked at the Timber Lake Playhouse in Mount Carroll, Illinois, in 1992
The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan, in 1993
And the Georgia Shakespeare Festival in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994
Jennifer Garner moved to New York City in 1995
During her first year in the city,
Garner earned $150 per week as an understudy
People seeing Jennifer act knowing her very pretty
For a Roundabout Theatre Company production of A Month in the Country
And made her first on-screen appearance
As Melissa Gilbert's daughter in the romance miniseries Zoya
In 1996, she played an Amish woman in the television movie Harvest of Fire
And a shopkeeper in the Western miniseries Dead Man's Walk
A character that does talk
She appeared in the independent short film In Harm's Way
Critics with a lot to judge and say
And made one-off appearances
In the legal dramas Swift Justice and Law & Order
Garner also supplemented her income
By working as a hostess at a restaurant on the Upper West Side
Having bills paid gaining inner pride
Again: not a job she enjoyed but being employed
Meant in the future she'd have a job she enjoyed.

Jennifer Garner working as an activist for early childhood education
And a board member of Save the Children USA
She is the co-founder and chief brand officer
Of the organic baby food company "Once Upon a Farm"
She is also an advocate for
A-paparazzi campaigns among children of celebrities
Because Jennifer Garner is also a business woman
And a woman with big ambitions
And a life that is never dull
For Jennifer reaches for the sky:
And then the spectacular stars
That shine in this vast universe
A career galactic: having gone far.

Not long after the turn of the Twenty-First Century,
Garner became one of the fourteen actors,
Who was not generally known for singing
But who participated in the compilation album
Unexpected Dreams - Songs from the Stars,
Released on April 4,2006,
On which album she sang a solo version of 'My Heart Is So Full Of You',
A song worth its credit and its due
From Frank Loesser's The Most Happy Fella; the original version had been a duet:
Victor Garber, (who had acted out Sydney Bristow's father Jack Bristow on Alias)
Was another such actor on the same compilation album;
His song on the album was Stephen Sondheim's 'No One Is Alone' (from Into The Woods)
The album selling well: doing good
It was neither the first time, nor would it be the last
Whether in the present or in the past
That Garner had ever done any singing publicly;
She had previously sung 'My Funny Valentine'
When hosting a 2003 edition of Saturday Night Live
On which Beck was the booked musical guest,
And on Alias, in the 2002 episode 'Rendezvous',
She sang a version of 'Since I Fell For You'
To which she wrote her own lyrics;
She was not credited for either: quite wrongfully
Later, in 2016, Garner sang 'Doin' It (All for My Baby) '
In the 2016 Garry K. Marshall comedy-drama Mother's Day,
And in 2021, in the family comedy Yes Day, she interpreted the Four Tops's
1964 chart selection 'Baby I Need Your Loving'.

In 2002, Garner filmed a 30-second television advertisement
For her childhood friend Corey Palumbo,
Who had been running as a Democratic candidate
For the West Virginia House of Delegates
In 2006, she spoke at a rally in support of
Democratic congressional candidate Jerry McNerney in Pleasanton, California
In 2008, she hosted two fund-raisers for Barack Obama
During the 2008 Democratic Primary
In 2007, Garner said she was 'not a particularly outwardly political person'
In 2014, Garner donated $25,000 to the campaign
Money not down the drain
Of Democratic politician Wendy Davis
During the 2016 presidential campaign,
Garner hosted a fund-raiser in support of Hillary Clinton in Bozeman, Montana
Garner also attended voter registration and phone bank events in support of Clinton in Reno, Nevada
In 2007, Garner appeared in a global warming awareness video
Produced by the Center for American Progress Action Fund

Garner was stalked by Steven Burky from 2002 to 2003
His crimes Jennifer did see
And again from 2008 to 2009
Was when there was the stalking crime
She, Affleck, her then-husband,
And her daughter Violet
Obtained a restraining order in 2008
Burky was arrested in December 2009
Outside her daughter's preschool
He was charged with two counts of stalking,
Always following Jennifer when out walking
To which he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity
In March 2010, he was ruled insane
However still to blame
Sent to California's state mental hospital
Where he could recover from his illness
And ordered to stay away from the Affleck family
For 10 years if for some reason released
Giving Jennifer's family peace.

Garner met co-star Scott Foley on the set of Felicity in 1998
They married in a ceremony at their home on October 19,2000
The couple separated in March 2003
Garner filed for divorce in May 2003,
Citing irreconcilable differences,
Divorce papers signed in March 2004
She dated her Alias co-star Michael Vartan from August 2003 to mid-2004.

Garner began dating Ben Affleck in August 2004,
Having established a friendship
On the sets of Pearl Harbor (2001) and Daredevil (2003)
They were married on June 29,2005,
In a private Turks and Caicos ceremony
Victor Garber, who officiated the ceremony,
And his later husband, Rainer Andreesen, were the only guests
Garner and Affleck have three children together:
Two pretty daughters, Violet Anne Affleck born in 2005
Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck born in 2009,
An incredibly pretty name
One son to be christened Samuel Garner Affleck born in 2012.

The couple announcing their intention to divorce in June 2015
Jointly filed legal documents in April 2017,
Seeking joint physical and legal custody of their children
The divorce was finalized in October 2018
Garner supported Affleck's struggles with alcoholism
During and after their marriage and said in 2020
That attending Al-Anon meetings changed 'the dance' of their relationship
She dated businessman John C. Miller from mid-2018 to early 2020
According to sources, she would be in a relationship with the businessman again since April 2021
A new love affair begun.

Jennifer Garner with a great deal of credit to her name:
An actress with worthwhile vast fame
Her work ranging from character to character
Her variety of film roles
Never repeating themselves: never the same
And with supermodel looks
She has the audience screen addiction: the acting hook

Her work global and to never stop
Telling stories to the world
Most for adults but also some for younger girls
Films with a message to send and receive
Her acting ability everyone to respect and believe
And with such a vast film catalogue
There is no getting bored
And with five years of Alias
Jennifer Garner is a true legend:
Rightfully dedicated to her work
Not just film work: but political work

And makes the world a better place

Because Jennifer Garner is an Alias legend.
