Gambled my last silver dollar's,
On the spinning of this wheel.
Will I now win or lose,
Only Lady Luck can soon reveal...
I bet my wages on that horse,
Leading the others a merry dance.
Will I now win or lose,
Only Lady Luck gives me a chance...
I'm betting all on a poker game,
With one last turn of the card.
Will I now win or lose,
Only Lady Luck now of me regard...
A simple heads or tails,
That's what my life's become.
Unpaid debts with these gangsters,
Flipping a coin for their fun...
Heads I live and tails I die,
The coin now spinning in the air.
My life hanging in the balance,
Will Lady Luck even choose to care...
The trials of many a gambler are wonderfully encapusulated in this dramatic monologue Shaun. I like the way it ends...creates real suspense..will he win or lose? It's a 'wish gambling was fun, but inevitably it's not' inspired five from me!
A wonderful poem with a great message. Engaging in a game of chance is always a disadvantage. We will just end up at the losing end. Beautifully crafted and well executed write. Top Marks and to my Poem List.
