Let Me Tell You What A Poem Brings

Poem by Juan Felipe Herrera

Before you go further,
let me tell you what a poem brings,
first, you must know the secret, there is no poem
to speak of, it is a way to attain a life without boundaries,
yes, it is that easy, a poem, imagine me telling you this,
instead of going day by day against the razors, well,
the judgments, all the tick-tock bronze, a leather jacket
sizing you up, the fashion mall, for example, from
the outside you think you are being entertained,
when you enter, things change, you get caught by surprise,
your mouth goes sour, you get thirsty, your legs grow cold
standing still in the middle of a storm, a poem, of course,
is always open for business too, except, as you can see,
it isn't exactly business that pulls your spirit into
the alarming waters, there you can bathe, you can play,
you can even join in on the gossip—the mist, that is,
the mist becomes central to your existence.

you can even join in on the gossip—the mist, that is,
the mist becomes central to your existence.
    - - - - - The mysterious qualities of a poem, perhaps the poet wants to say in these last lines; Poem. You can bath or play with the poetic water- -but its mystery is central to your existence.(Report)Reply

Trying to figure out what a poem means, in the state of confusion so many thoughts crossing the mind. Nice poem.(Report)Reply

Can someone explain the message please?
Can someone please help me and explain the message here.
Let me try, even without saying in so many words, or rather while the poet said a lot of things,
what he perhaps meant is: it is not so much what you say in a poem,
as it is' how, but then well, I am too trying in dark, not being familiar with this genre.
But the poem has made a lot of readers busy on their wings of imagination,
and that is what a poem is. Any one else?(Report)Reply

when you enter, things change, you get caught by surprise,
your mouth goes sour, you get thirsty, your legs grow cold
standing still in the middle of a storm,

A poem of excellence, amazed at the way you dealt with this theme.
    Thanks for the sharing.
    10 for it.
    Regards.

Before you go further let me tell what a poem brings with each line and each word. Wonderfully presented with nice imagery within and each word speaks about the essence of feeling. Nice sharing.....10.(Report)Reply
