Let Us Wine And Dine For A Lifetime! Poem by Mihaela Pirjol

I secretly preserved our love
in a bottle of fine wine,
in the cellar of my mind:
safe from the invasive present,
to refine with time:
yet, still young, as when we were in love,
as the sentiments of my heart:
ripe in an abundant autumn-love,
holding still the fruity fragrance
of our fresh grapes—
delicious grapes of innocence!

They taste so sweet
on the taste buds of memories…
they taste so sweet
on lips we never kissed:
my lips have become strawberries
with imaginary kisses!
like the strawberry wine in my bottle,
fermenting in refinement,
moist with musical seduction:
the secret lyricism taste of maturation
into a love yet to be degusted;
but, we both know, how exquisite and divine
this wine of love has become!

Enough to keep us drunk for an entire barren life
out of the barrel of grapes we possess—
grapes, we have fermented for so long,
in that bountiful autumnal season of love,
when ‘we could not conceive…'
when we could not conceive that
the preservation could last a lifetime,
and produce the most genetically advanced
offspring from the grapes' juice-blood of beauty:
the blood of our very veins still feverishly
bubbling, hermetic in the secret bottle
for a perpetual inebriation of romance:
extracting drops of ethanol with each reminiscence
from the well-kept memories of my mind,
intoxicating our spirits with the Love-spirit;
evocations forever fevering in old emotions:
effervescent with expectation…

On the Altar of Love,
two glasses of our red wine
are sanctified by the god Eros,
with our souls forever entwined
in the hourglass of time,
celebrating the ephemeral life, but Love
defying death—defying time;
savoured with tiny bits of our hearts enamoured
until the end of time;
on the invitation of my heart is written:
‘Let us wine and dine before we die!
Let us wine and dine for a lifetime! '
