I wish that I had written you
when I was young and strong and wise
I knew that I would never die
I'd face the world without disguise
but as I pen this note to you
I have grown old and tired and weak
but I recall that hopeful youth
it is to you that I must speak
I can but say what I was told
to quietly sit and watch the crowd
and see the good and evil there
and think before I speak aloud
and though I wrote it long ago
I would not take my own advice
and that has put me on this path
with wishing that I had thought twice
I've come to believe I was untrue
to one I should have loved the most
this shadow of my former self
this youth transformed into a ghost
Not too shabby for someone who has grown old and tired and weak. Quite an ode to youthfulness and old age. Congratulations on a well deserved Poem Of The Day!
Better late than never, I regret having read it so late, this is wonderful poem, specially when we sit down and look back at our journey and do some retrospection.Full ****
I have commented on this before, but had to come back and read it again because I really like it. I am going to mention it in my Puzzle Master Quiz 050, to be posted the day after tomorrow.
it is very humble when you call this amazing poem as a note.... unique technique has used in this letter, as the sender and receiver is the poet himself, but we can read many indications and meaning behind each word, wish you all success and genuine happiness +10 from me
I have yet to write a dear john to myself, kind of depressed in its tone, but nicely penned. Kudos to you, ghost... thumbs up!
Fine revelation in last stanza. With age comes wisdom in most cases. Seems you learned from your mistake/s.
