Life In Shadows Poem by Nosheen Irfan

Life In Shadows

Rating: 5.0

She lives in the shadows of the night
Darkness brings her bread and bite
Under the street light or in murky corners
Looking out for the chance stroller
She is made up heavily around the eyes
Her lips in a pout of glittery invite
With nothing to lose in the world of snatchers
Her shameless gaze chases an easy catch
A single eye-lock and someone falls
A willing prey to the wily charms
She wants bread, he wants escape
The night passes in a soulless bond
At dawn in the yellow gleam of the sun
The world awakens to see her bread
And she has to answer for every bite.

Outstanding poem, to bring such social issues in poem definitely need courage and feeling-heart and you have both. Beyond ratings yet maximum 10+++++++

So much to be said about the lives in this tapestry of existence. The answering for every bite. The passion play in the night. I wonder at the beings that have more than a bite but want it all, the mansion, the money and the social status. They too sell themselves but do so in an even more shameful way as they sell themselves for greed rather than existence. What an amazing poem you have created. Such depth and raw honesty.

An extra ordinary piece of poetry! I can visualise the situation through your last line?

I am speechless, how to express my feelings, how helpless I am, I can't do anything for her, I can only pray,

A slap on the face of our society which proclaims its democratic credentials and a constitution which ensures equality and dignity to one and all. Thanks for sharing a thought provoking poem: Darkness brings her bread and bite With nothing to lose in the world of snatchers

It is so very unfortunate that many women are forced into prostitution just to appease their hunger for food and support a family. The society stigmatizes them and sees them as despicable! You have taken up a social issue and have treated it with sympathy and compassion. Powerful write! A10

At dawn in the yellow gleam of the sun The world awakens to see her bread And she has to answer for every bite. This world is quite judgmental, few are pushed into this profession and others land up there by destiny either way there is no ray of hope for them. Love the way you portrayed the sensitive part of the character. Way to go girl, keep writing the truth.100+++
