Long Or Short
Long as the guard rail on an expressway
Extending into infinity;
Or the sun parched hay field;
Filling the distance till eternity
Short as a sweet dream that lasts for a moment
Or an ephemeral smile that flashes for a second
Short as the sight of a myopic
Or momentary as sorcerer’s trick
Too long to live, too short to lead
Too long to fret, too short to enjoy
What is life, tell me boy …
I want to study it bit by bit
To understand the long and short of it.
