Looming - Poem by verity martin

A dark cloud in my heart,
Rains tears most days.
For fear of life,
Without your love,
Without you.

Every day that goes by,
Is one less for us
To be together
Here on earth
Don’t leave me.

If I could be in your place,
So it could be me
Who suffers for you
Who feels the pain
Why not me?

The end is near
Too close to stop,
Too vague to see,
But there.

That we will part,
And I’ll be left.
To try and cope,

For my heart bleeds,
My wounds won’t heal,
My scars won’t fade,
But can’t be seen.

To face the truth,
Accept your fate,
Give up hope,

Will see me through,
You’re in my heart,
On my mind,
Won’t disappear

The end
Who cares?
I do
Can’t imagine life
Without you
Goodnight, love you.

(this poem was written by me, I am thirteen years old and my mum has terminal cancer)
