(for a Ghanian ghetto survivor)
Best ever for tenacity of youth bent on learning
Best ever for the keen, hunger-whetted edge
Best ever for rising on most meager means
Best for never getting snared by hatred
Nimblest feet for mamboing past the mambas
Best at staying ahead of the bullet train
Then roll far ahead with merry on your face
To charm smiles from a gazelle-legged Muse
A young man with a thirst for knowledge and kindness in his heart is a wise man in the making. Love the maneuvering around the mamba's. An uplifting poem that inspires.....perhaps a message to keep positive despite adversity and enjoy your hunger for knowledge.
I have read Edward Kofi Louis' poem'50 CENT'. Your poem is a fine poem giving tribute to Edward Kofi Louis for his great achievement in the face of immense adversities.Poverty, hunger or hatred can not deter a spirited soul..Thank you Denis Mair for your wonderful sharing.I too find in you a spirited soul often desirous of conquering the negative forces deterring our progress as a true human being.

aspiration? i had the medical definition stuck in my head, having 'forgotten' the one which fits here. i actually understand this pretty well i think. and i like it enough. and it is SHORT! so my comment SHOULD be pretty short also. you use merry as a noun, like 'happiness'. i've seen this on PH before i think in a poem or message from another 'foreigner'. here (in U.S.) i would use it as an adjective, as in Merry Christmas, or merry laughter, but i AM open to new uses! i know what a mamba is; luckily i've never encountered one while crawling through the underbrush or tree branches! Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! To charm smiles from a gazelle-legged Muse..............a gazelle-legged Muse sounds inviting. and it sounds like the subject (person) of the poem (ghetto survivor) entered the world with the right survival equipment; he perhaps was charmed himself with 'gifts' of survival and beyond. to MyPoemList. bri ;)
