No More Freedom Of Speech Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

No More Freedom Of Speech

Rating: 5.0

No More Freedom Of Speech, again today, this looks like a habit of the general, she had been head of the state for 5 years and now again he did a coup d'état. How shocking for the world.

I am very sad about this elegant dame
her fame
is far over the
turbulent earth
is it really worth

what the
general had done?

one sunny day
she can rule
one saddest day
she no longer counts

five years is too short for the peaceful country
people really love the country now
freed from your own shadow
freedom is no more now
it's gone again
the pure crystal clear air they so cherish
the famous lady in vain
her beloved free country, again
in general's hand

Winner of the Nobel Prize for peace
no, my dear lady
to rule the liars
it's not that ease,

they cheated on you
they lied
Under their supervision for 5 years
may you rule with your sweet face
how is that possible,
just dropped off
because you won 83% of the votes
the general has become very jealous
and.....anxious

this situation is worse than Soeharto's regime

the peace is no more that ease

I have to do with you, this elegant lady

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Poet's Notes: Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi got the Nobel prize for Peace in 1991 and she has 46 other prizes and titles. The previous election her party won 82% and the election of last autumn she won 83%. The general was very jealous about this fact and made a coup d' état. Her spouse died in London in 1999 because of prostate cancer (she did not attend the funeral nor had she visited him since 1993.She was afraid that the juncta would not permit her enter Myanmar again. The juncta told her if she will go and stay abroad, she will not be imprisoned, but she wanted to stay and live for her people who are all loyal to her. I am very sad to hear the news today that she was imprisoned yesterday and is no leader anymore

In a country ruled by despotic leaders, people are caged like birds and freedom is just a dream that can never be realized. So poignant.
