O, Candle! Poem by Kesav Venkat Easwaran

O, Candle!

O, Candle,
on lighted up, you burn out
in your heart, you melt
in goodness, give out life
to those in need, you bring light
until your willing wick
holds out inside alive

The good teacher, you, preach out
the silent message of life

Day in, day out, you alike,
we, too, burn away in life
warmth to give to kith and kin,
we emit heat and light
till the end of the wick inside,
spread the brightness to their strides,
offer help to get lighted up,
renew our burnt-up life

I know I read this but I will comment again because knowing me I read it and didn't comment. I do that sometimes. This was a truly remarkable piece so full of truth. Very well done as always..

Candle burns itself, goes through melting pain gradually engulfs the whole of it, but it shines everything in its surrounding... In sheer darkness it is the only light which gives us hope and vision... Beautifully written poem...

This is a wonderful piece. It's sort of like a human being. We kind of consume ourselves during our lifetime giving away bits of ourselves a little at a time. I like this very much.

A great poem reveling the truth! parents sacrifice many things in life almost like a burning candle which doesn't want anything in return! It's truly a master piece!

your personification of life with a candle burning for the comfort of others is just commendable..
