Oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

Oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam

Rating: 5.0

Oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam

the new year is only seventeen days old
The Dutch government has again mined a lot of gold

once again many finds of huge drugs, hidden in the port
Rotterdam is a too friendly port and houses many containers

the extractors often hide underage in these places
these attackers were sent by criminals for ages

they often remain in a safe background with impunity
these underage perpetrators are now being sentenced

that was much lighter, only 95 euros for one crime
that of being caught for staying in the containers

then running away with all that smuggling of drugs from the west
oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam, you are far too good for this disaster

drug criminals are always out of sight,
A 95 Euro penalty for the perpetrators,
if they are caught, is now far too light

the young loot collectors now receive mandatory punishments
prison sentences two years long
they got 40.000 Euro from the criminals

we thought it was already over
with all that picking up stuff
coke, drugs, what does it matter?
Oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam you are too good for this disaster

the new year is only seventeen days old
again so much loot was caught and not that old
Rotterdam is once again flooded with all that coke and drug stuff
each time, brand-new drug collectors are sent by the criminals

Oh Rotterdam, Rotterdam, you are far too good for this disaster

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Poet's Note: Young teenagers are sent by drug criminals to retrieve the drugs and coke hidden in the port of Rotterdam. If these teenagers are caught, they will receive two years in prison. Brand new rules from the Dutch Government. The minors get 40,000 Euros from the criminals. These teens get caught many times, but the criminals never stop. They are constantly out of sight, they are never caught, just these teenagers who have to pick up the drugs and coke for them.

Those who are behind the exploitation are rarely, if ever, caught. A tremendous verse, Sylvia.

A huge problem for sure, and in many other countries as well.
