Over The Horizon Poem by Hazel Durham

Over The Horizon

Rating: 5.0

The winter sunlight embracing and chasing the day,
Birds fly to distant lands to find a better way,
Clouds scurry across a smouldering sky,
Old people slumber as the flowers begin to die

And the world tries to forget all the lies,
On the mean streets the little children can be heard to cry,
The war of hate makes everybody suffer and so many die,
Love can change the ruthless, darkened sky,

As hearts of passion for life, ignites love
For the old, the lonely, the children and the forgotten above,
The sky changes to a beautiful, shimmering blue,
And over the horizon the animals roam free, this is all true,

Christmas lights up the cosy homes and the warm streets,
Like an everyday, loving treat,
As clear, sweet, blue skies,
Exposes all the lies,

And teaches the forgiving truth,
We should never forget our roots,
And the lessons we learned in our youth,
That sets love alight like the everlasting sun,

Now God smiles as the little children have lots of fun,
The moon and stars can rest in peace as war will cease,
People rejoice as love flourishes here over the horizon,
With the everlasting memory of the birth of Christ,

He dwells in our souls to make our world right,
Nature holds hands with the comfort of God's light
As the goodness and wisdom of Christ
Heals the world of hate

To understand to love each other is our faith.

A lovely sentiment expressed in this poem, Hazel. Love can help to heal the problems we all face today, but sadly love, in it's all embracing form, is in very short supply these days. Maybe we need to go back to find our future.

How lovely the imagery is artfully blended in this poem! and the rhythm and rhymes offer a gentle flow while reading it. A wise poem, and a great poem for Christmas, as well.
