Poetry Of Muhammad Ali

Rating: 4.6

There are two things
That are hard to hit and see,
That's a spooky ghost
And Muhammad Ali.

My face is so pretty,
You don't see a scar,
Which proves I'm the king
Of the ring so far.

I'm a baaad man.
Archie Moore fell in four,
Liston wanted me more,
Since he's so great,
I'll make him fall in eight.
I'm a baaad man,
I'm king of the world!

My opponents are like postage stamps
- - always getting licked.

I float like a butterfly,
Sting like a bee,
His hands can't hit
What his eyes can't see.

If you ever dream
of beating me,
You better wake up
and apologize.

Now this might
Astound and amaze ya,
But I will destroy
Joe Frazier.

Stay in college,
Get the knowledge,
Stay there till you are through.
If they can make penicillin
Out of moldy bread,
They sure'll make
Something out of you!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I first saw Muhammad Ali fight before he changed his name. He was still Cassius Clay at the time. I worked as a night watchman on the graveyard shift at the local gypsum plant and when I got there, the guys who were working the swing shift and would be going home in a few minutes would always ask me about things that had happened in sports that day.
One day a big fight was coming up between Cassius Clay and … I don't remember who the opponent was. Anyway, very few of us had ever seen him box, but we had heard the reports of him bragging about how good he was.
So I had watched the fight that evening before coming to work that night and they were all anxious to hear what I thought of this brash young fighter. I told them, 'Well, I believe he's as good as he says he is.'

He liked to taunt his opponents with verse. These are a few examples of his sayings. Some of them rhyme and some do not. The last one is advice to all.

thank you I had never heard the moldy bread bit and it tickled me. I saw most of his fights and yes he was something else I eventually even became a Howard Cosell fan I was so envious when Wonder Woman kissed him at the Battle Of The Network Stars

Absolutely love this, and of course, Ali! Muhammad Ali is one of the very few heroes I have. He was an incredible, superb human being. God rest his beautiful soul. Great poem Kim!

I remember him on TV saying something like: No matter who you are or where you live, I can lick you.

Sonny Liston was a sight to see. The strongest man and the best physique I ever saw. Excellent, entertaining poem.

My favourite poem for yonks about my favourite Sporting hero. He was adored this side of the Pond. Our 'enry put him on the seat of his pants but Muhammad came back like a true champ. Thanks for the memories, Kim, about this great guy!

Tom, thank you for commenting. I'm sorry I never got around to replying while you were still alive. You and Mr. Purry rest in peace, my friend.
