Raining Fire. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Raining Fire.

Peak summer,
Rains fire.
Burns trees,
branches, flowers.

Scorching heat,
cracks cranium.
Heat stroke,
causes benumb.

Roads empty,
people indoor.
Govt. bans
mid-day labour.

Stray cattle
and street dogs.
Desperately search,
massive tree's shade.

Closed are schools
for summer vacation.
But teachers are engaged
in paper valuation.

Temporary sheds raised
for water distribution.
Medical teams and vehicles,
on the alert, for emergency situation.

Trees are watered
two times a day.
Still parts of the leaves
wilt and decay.

Fossorial animals
shun their natural homes.
Snakes move out,
increase human annoyance.

Forest fires become clear
with approach of night.
Harmful for wild lives, ecology,
very difficult to extinguish.

Fruits ripening is enhanced
due to intense heat.
But along with it life is
miserable for water scarcity.

Frequent interruptions in power
supply, voltage fluctuations;
Gadgets and machines fail
to do normal functions.

Red alerts for some areas
to caution people for dust devils.
Govt. takes measures to
safeguard from impending perils.

Summer is definitely harsh
for lives on this planet.
But it helps creating clouds,
not our foe, but a mate.
